Capability Examples

Fastwave has developed successful solutions for a wide range of client applications. Some of these are briefly described below:

Marine Environmental Research

The University of Western Australia's Centre of Water Research conducts numerous research projects in the Indian Ocean that require the deployment of recoverable drifting sensors over extended periods.

Fastwave has designed and constructed drifting telemetry buoys that enable near real time tracking and data transfer over the Iridium Short Burst Data (SBD) system. Fastwave has also designed and supplied similar systems to Australia's leading marine research institution, CSIRO.

Bushfire Warning Systems

The Country Fire Services Authority of Australia has utilized Fastwave satellite telemetry expertise and equipment to develop mobile automatic weather stations that provide vital meteorological data for the monitoring and prediction of fire fronts in remote areas.

Geotechnical Monitoring

In partnership with Softrock Pty Ltd of Australia, Fastwave has developed a satellite remote monitoring and control system for Total Station instruments used to detect movement on open cut mine pit faces. This system is ideal for mine sites in remote locations, where conventional telemetry systems maybe impractical. The system is now being used by BHPB, the world's largest mining company.

SCADA - Cathodic Protection System Monitoring and Control

Cathodic Protection (CP) is a method of inhibiting corrosion on large steel structures such as pipelines, bridges, jetties, vessels and offshore platforms. CP systems are often installed on remote infrastructure such as pipelines, but are not integrated with other communication and SCADA systems. As a result, timely monitoring and maintenance of CP systems has been difficult.

To provide a solution, Fastwave has formed an alliance with Advanced Cathodic Protection, Australia's leading manufacturer of transformer-rectifiers used on large scale cathodic protection systems. This has enabled the development of a unique, global on-line CP monitoring and control system, which is now being adopted by some of Australia's leading utilities and infrastructure operators.

Personnel Tracking

In response to a growing need for real time, on-line tracking of employees, military and emergency services personnel in remote, hazardous or hostile locations, Fastwave has developed the "FastComm Tracker" tracking and communication solution. This compact, wearable device enables automated GPS co-ordinates to be transmitted via Iridium Short Burst Data telemetry from the wearer, according to a user defined schedule. The remote unit can also be polled for latest position, and can have panic alarm functionality for duress or emergency situations.
